Unusual and beautifully decorated antique Art Nouveau mold blown ruby or cranberry glass decanter / carafe with serpentine applied handle. The polychrome enamel decoration features a swan and duck amidst flowers and rushes. The scene is highlighted with thin painted gold leaves. The stopper is unique and features an exterior rib pattern enclosing a large bubble. The top of the stopper has an applied raspberry prunt. The underside of the decanter has a polished pontil with the number 165. This decanter is not signed.

I think this decanter is of French origin possibly by Emile Galle. If you look at the last picture I have posted there is a clear enameled decanter with an identical stopper. The piece in that photograph has an enamel signuature on the bottom "E. Gallé Nancy" ..

Size: appx. 12 1/4" high with stopper in

Condition: chip on top edge - gilded over - see pics; several tiny chips on ground bottom of stopper; some wear to gold - see pics; white residue in base of carafe

Item ID: 4126
