Pope Leo XIII Commemorative Plate
This plate is No. 240 in the "American Historical Glass" book by Bessie Lindsey. From the book: "Pope Leo XIII (1810-1903) was crowned in 1878. Under his direction the papacy acquired a prestige unknown since the Middle Ages. It has been said he would have become a statesman of the first rank had he held office in a secular government. On March 3, 1903, he celebrated his jubilee (twenty-five years of service) with marked grandeur and ceremony. He died on July 20, following.
"Pope Leo is honored by a plate of crystal glass. His portrait ornaments the center, and the name 'Pope Leo XIII' is incribed below it. The rim is decorated with a hobnail design alternating with church symbols"
